The Hideout @ Mace's Hole, a fully functional Colorado recording studio, has been 25 years in the making. Beginning in 1984 as Pops Neon Enterprises, studio has evolved from a smaller songwriters studio in Los Angeles to what we now have in Beulah, Colorado. We are well-trained in and appreciate a variety of musical styles:  rock, pop, R&B, jazz, country, hip-hop.............even classical!!

 

Steve Hobson
Producer/Music Director

Steve has been in the music business for over 40 years. He earned a degree in music composition from UCLA, where he studied with Henri Lazarof and Paul Des Marias, among others, and studied piano under Salome Arkatov. While at UCLA, Steve was a recipient of the Stanley Willson Memorial Scholarship in Composition and winner of a Clifton Webb Endowment. Before moving to Los Angeles in 1970, he was a member of the Pueblo, Colorado horn band Karma. While in California, he performed with the Cordova Brothers, A Taste of Sherry and Moxy. Steve has been fortunate to have worked with producers Joe Reed, George Tobin and Tim O'Brien; composer-keyboardist Scott DeTurk; drummers Russell Bissett, Scott Page and Peter Lambert Smith; guitarists Jim Reed, Kevin Dukes, Kevin Fallon, and Aaron Meza; bassist/engineer Don Tittle; keyboardists Mike Spotts and Ernie Wadda; and singer/songwriters Dick Wells and Joanna St. Clair, to name a few. Steve was a founding member of Songsmiths, a songwriting collaborative and studio band, and helped build Shooting Star Studio in Venice, California, where he cut his engineering chops under the tutelage of Don Tittle. Steve also was a judge for the finals of the California Country Music Awards and participated in the Los Angeles Unified School District's "Reflections" program as a judge for the musical composition category. He has released several records through his own record label, Pops Neon Records, and is also owner/administrator of two music publishing companies: Auntie Argon Music (BMI) and Mama Freon Music (ASCAP). He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Pueblo Songwriters and Musicians Association.

 

Tyler Hobson
Engineer

Tyler is the Hideout's resident computer expert and Sonar DAW guru.  His interest in a wide variety of musical styles has allowed him to offer his fresh perspective to our clients as well as to our producers and other engineers. Tyler brings enthusiasm and positive energy to every project in which he is involved, as well his expertise at the digital audio workstation and mixing board. Tyler has been around recording studios all of his life and has been actively involved in running the studio for the past three years.

 

 

Keith Hobson
Engineer/Producer

Keith has been active in the music industry since 1990 as a producer, engineer, songwriter, and a top-notch DJ. He completed the UCLA Production and Engineering curriculum, graduating in June 2005. He works in all genres of music, with extensive experience in Hip-Hop, R&B, and Jazz. He has worked with Quincy Jones, Jeff Weber, Stevie Nicks, Scott Storch, Christina Aguilera and others. He is proficient in Pro Tools, Pro Logic and Reason.  He presently is living, recording and spinnin' tunes as a DJ in Los Angeles, but is available to do your project at the Hideout with a few weeks notice.

 

Doug Garvey
Associate Engineer/Producer

Doug brings years in the music business to the table. He is a prolific musician (he sings, plays trumpet, rhythm and bass guitar, percussion and keyboards) that has toured 18 years with various bands throughout the United States. His bands have opened for Boz Skaggs, Stevie Nicks, Elvin Bishop, Skunk Baxter, Al Stewart and others. His keen insight into the current pulse of popular music as well as his performing chops has been a welcome addition to our staff at the Hideout. Doug is available as a studio musician, writer and producer.
